A hitman for hire is a cheap trick, and I’m still listening.
Azure is an engineered contract killer in the megacity of Themis, where murdering the biologically immortal is legal and crowdfunded. His client was declared dead fifteen years ago. That’s a setup with teeth.
Azure carries genetic modifications called revs, some for strength and speed, some for recall and pain dampening, and Bookishelf says he can’t run them all at once. That’s a limit, and I like a limit. A power that never runs out is a cape.
Bookishelf called it “fast, funny and inventive,” and found the world sketched and the ending unresolved. I’ll side with the book on the first and the reviewer on the second: a city where killing the immortal rich is a crowdfunded sport needs more than an outline. Read it for Azure and what his hardware costs him, not for Themis. ΩΩΩ½.
It came out September 1 from Saga Press and Gollancz, in hardcover and ebook, with a hardcover listed at about $39 CAD at Indigo.
